Anacortes is a charming city with a population of 17,637 located in Skagit County. The city got its name from Anne Curtis Bowman, wife of Amos Bowman, who was an early settler on Fidalgo Island. Anacortes is one of the two main cities in the Mount Vernon-Anacortes area.
Anacortes is well-known for its Washington State Ferries dock and terminal that offers transportation to several islands, including Lopez Island, Shaw Island, Orcas Island, and San Juan Island. It also provides transportation to Victoria, British Columbia, and a Skagit County-operated ferry runs to Guemes Island across Guemes Channel, north of Anacortes.
Anacortes has many things to do, including unique cafes, upscale restaurants, breathtaking art galleries, and exclusive antique shops and boutiques. The city’s most attractive feature is its natural beauty, with popular activities such as kayaking, boating, sailing, bird watching, fishing, hiking, crabbing, and whale watching.
