“Situated in the northern area of the city is The Cordata Neighborhood. Meridian Street borders it to the east and West Bakerview Road to the south. It extends to the City limits to the north, west, and southwest.

Formed in 2010, when the boundaries of the Meridian and Guide Meridian and Cordata Neighborhoods were redrawn is what makes up Cordata Neighborhood.

Also, leading to these changes included the increase in residential development and population. The presence of Whatcom Community College concentrates on professional commercial, institutional, and industrial uses along Cordata Parkway. The area is close to one of Bellingham’s regional commercial areas within the Meridian Neighborhood.

Neighborhood Development

The Cordata Neighborhood contains a variety of land use zoning designations. Most are Public and Planned: Residential, Commercial, Industrial, and Institutional. Cordata Business Park Planned Unit Development (PUD) and the City’s Land Use Development Code are helping guide the development in this area. These codes identify the development and design standards needed to preserve and protect the character and qualities of the neighborhood area.”

New Community Park

The Cordata neighborhood added a park to Whatcom County’s great parks list. Located between Stuart and Horton Roads, with over 20 acres of land, this park is local, especially for children.

Cordata Park includes an age-separated playground, picnic areas, a large picnic shelter, parkour, a bike pump track, basketball and pickleball, restrooms, and plenty of trails. Cordata Park has many luminous areas and routes for any nighttime pedestrian.
